Simple and Scrumptious

This recipe had to be, hands down, the most idiot-proof recipe ever.  You cook the noodles, throw them in a baking dish (I sprayed the bottom with cooking spray first but I don't think it was needed), mix them with a pint of sour cream, cover them with cheese curds and bacon, then bake til everything's melted.  Seriously, that's it.

And if you've never tried cheese curds, you're missing out.  It sounds kinda gross (curd sounds too much like curdle to me), but they're really a lot like a less flavorful mozzerella.  I also made sure to find pasta that called itself "dumplings" in hopes of getting the most authentic flavor possible.
Now, the recipe that I'd picked actually said to use cottage cheese, not curds.  But if you read some of the comments, one person (most likely Hungarian) said that it simply wouldn't be the same with cottage cheese instead of cheese curds.  I found these in the deli cheese section at Hannaford...I'm not sure that you can find them everywhere (I think it's a northeast thing to have them so readily available), but I don't know for sure.  Let me know if you know.
The full meal: pasta, ciabatta bread, and a salad.  YUM!

  1. Just wanted to stop by and say I really enjoy your blog. As for the recipe do you think this would still be good without the bacon?

  2. killakasie, I think it would be ok without the bacon, but would need something else to flavor it...depending on your needs (vegetarian, low sodium, etc) you could try maybe roasted red peppers or something grilled, to give it a smokey flavor. That was the best part of the bacon for me...it gave it a little smokey/salty/sweet (I used maple cured) punch.

    Thanks for stopping by!

  3. I don't even know where to find cheese curds? But this does sound pretty stupid-proof (I need those kinds of recipes a lot). Looks like a simply delicious dinner. Thanks for sharing!
